Toasty Toes!

I finally finished the 'log cabin socks' from Handknit Holidays.
(They've been sat in an unfinished objects pile for over a year!)

I just love how they turned out.
Thanks to the Socktoberfest folks for their kind words.

Turns out that my timing couldn't be better... the weathermen are predicting a snow storm to roll in this evening. At least Joe will have nice toasty toes!

Arctic Lace Kicks Off

I received my Arctic Lace goodie box from Joanne. She put a lot of thought and effort into the KAL and the kits - it's much appreciated.

With the yarn on hand, I started flicking through the Arctic Lace book trying to decide what to make. If I was sensible, I would have picked one of Donna's beautiful patterns that was mapped out already... but flicking through the book, a photo of a striking diamond and zigzag pattern jumped out at me (an Oomingmak design). I'm looking forward to trying my hand at creating my own pattern, using Donna's chapter on designing your own lace knits and the diamond/zigzag pattern as my inspiration piece.

In the back of my mind, I wonder if I'm being a little over ambitious... it's my first time knitting lace, never mind designing a lace pattern! But I do love a good challenge!

Besides, I want it to be the perfect pattern -- the scarf will be a Christmas gift for my Grandma. She recently returned from a trip to Alaska, where she had a wonderful time. It's one of the things she always wanted to do, and she's so very happy she did. So I thought it would be a nice gesture to make this for her.
